As mentioned, in a nutshell, the weather in Mexico in February is great! There are plenty of destinations to enjoy and visit during this time of the year.
Temperatures in Mexico in February can vary depending on the region. In general, the northern states tend to be cooler, with average high temperatures around 70-80°F (20-27°C), and low temperatures around 50-60°F (10-15°C).
Coastal areas and the southern states tend to be warmer, with average high temperatures around 80-90°F (27-32°C) and low temperatures around 60-70°F (15-20°C). Destinations like Cabo can be visited all-year-round.
When is Rainy season in Mexico?
Mexico in February means pretty good weather all throughout the country. The rainy season runs from May to October, depending on the region so you’re in luck as this means you are unlikely to see any rain in February in Mexico.
The dry season is my favorite season as it gives me a chance to escape the never ending downpour in the UK!
Also the Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from the beginning of June to the end of November so you shouldn’t witness any big storms either which is what makes the weather in February pretty good.
Average Temperatures for Mexico in February
The average temperature for February in Mexico will depend on the area, but Mexico is still on the warmer side in February. You can expect mild temperatures and very little rainfall.
The weather in February for cities in Central Mexico like Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende tend to be chillier (around 75°F) than the beaches. It can even get a bit breezy by night in the central cities so I would recommend taking a jacket.
Like the cities, Copper Canyon can still be a bit colder in areas with an average of 65°F. This will give the opportunity to ski or go hiking (yes, there are ski resorts in Mexico!!).
Just take a selection of summer and winter clothes as some areas see lows of 45°F. Whereas Baja California’s temperature climbs to around 85°F.
Why Visit Mexico in February
The weather in Mexico in February will provide you with some top-notch beach time and adrenaline fueling activities such as zip-lining and parasailing. You can expect to find temperatures in Mexico to be around 80°F.
Mexico in February offers pretty average temperatures, making it a great time to visit the Chichen Itza ruins, the crowning glory of the Mayan Ruins, dive into the cenotes in Tulum or get involved in the lively partying for the Carnaval.
February in Mexico really has something for everyone.
With it being such a popular time to visit, it will be quite busy. If you are looking to party the night away and live it up in a lively atmosphere then head south of Mexico in February.

1. Cancun in February
Cancun is a hot spot for tourists all year round. February is outside the rainy season so you will see little to no rain. The temperatures in Mexico rises slightly from January to an average of 84°F for the daytime and 70°F in the evenings.
The humidity is also still quite high at 75% so don’t forget to keep hydrated. To enjoy a more relaxed visit to Cancun, plan your visit for mid to late February. February is a popular time to visit Cancun so best plan ahead!
With the temperatures on the rise you could take a refreshing dip in the Cancun cenotes or the Laguna Nichupte to cool off. Cancun in the warm weather is all about lazing on their gorgeous beaches, admiring the glistening Caribbean sea. You can also visit a couple of Mayan Riviera cenotes and Mayan ruins while you’re there!
Some of my favorite Cancun beaches; Playa Mujeres, Playa Delfines, Playa Langosta, Playa Punta Nizuc, Playa Chac Mool and Playa Marlín. You could even take a trip from Cancun to Isla Mujeres (I will mention this tranquil paradise later) as it’s only 20 minutes away by boat!

2. Mexico City in February
February in Mexico City is still a bit chillier which is great if you prefer cooler weather. The average temperature in February will be around 76°F with it rarely falling below 67°F.
The cool weather gives you plenty of opportunity to explore one of the 100 museums that Mexico City is known for. February is still in the dry season for Mexico so I doubt you will see much rain, if any.
Another great thing to do in Mexico City in February is to do a tour to see the migrating Monarch butterflies. These magnificent creatures travel to Mexico from Canada from November to March.
There are also hundreds of museums and art galleries like Frida Kahlo Museum. Or check out a Lucha Libre Night for a night of entertainment and tacos.

3. Tulum in February
February is one of the best times to visit Tulum. Over the recent years, Tulum has become a popular (and expensive) place to visit in Mexico. While some wonder about the general safety in Tulum, we can assure you that this destination is a great spot to explore in Mexico.
Temperatures reach up to 86°F in February in Tulum which attracts the crowds. During this time, beach clubs in Tulum are a vibe!
The great weather does mean that you have a number of activities you can partake in. February is also the dry season, but you may get a shower or two with it being on the coast.
The hottest part of the day is between 11am- 2pm so I would recommend doing an indoor activity like this local cooking class or plan a water activity. You could go snorkeling or for a swim in the Tulum cenotes during the hottest hours.
Tulum has some of the best beaches in Mexico, and as you have an average weather of 83-86°F, you should head to one to catch some rays (responsibly of course).

4. Playa del Carmen in February
Playa del Carmen has temperatures around 84°F in February with it rarely below 77°F and a 72% chance of a perfect sunny day, what more could we ask for?
Playa del Carmen, or “Playa” is often referred to as a mini-Cancun but Playa has more of a small town feel compared to the resort town of Cancun. It only takes an hour to travel from Cancun to Playa del Carmen so expect fairly similar weather conditions.
There will be some humidity in Playa, but you can avoid this by planning water activities in the afternoon.
The water temperatures are around 77°F so a particularly good time for swimming in the sea or visiting some of the many Playa del Carmen cenotes. If you are planning to visit the Mayan Ruins nearby, I would suggest you do this in the morning to avoid the crowds and the humidity of the afternoon.
From Playa del Carmen, you can also spend some time visiting the nearby island of Cozumel. February is one of the best months to go scuba diving in Cozumel.

5. Merida in February
Another popular place to visit in Mexico during the month of February is Merida. The temperature in Mexico during the month of February in Merida makes it one of the best times to visit.

During this time, you can expect an average temperature of 80°F day and around 70°F night. There are fewer crowds during this time of the month as well, making it a great spot to visit a few cenotes near Merida as well as the nearby city of Valladolid.

6. Cabo San Lucas in February
Cabo San Lucas is the most popular of the two Cabos and it gets an incredible 300 days of sunshine a year. This makes Cabo a great place to visit year round due to its idyllic location on the Pacific Coast.
The rainy season here is only for 2 months from August to September and the rest of the time is blue skies and sunshine. February is warm with the average temperature 80°F.
You could cool off with one of the many water based activities in Cabo such as diving, snorkeling or parasailing. We recommend this Luxury Sailing Trip or 4-Hour Snorkeling Cruise with Open Bar (this one is sure to keep you hydrated!)
Take a boat trip to El Arco, a famous site of a natural stone arch which is close to some lovely beaches. Or you could visit one of Mexico’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites – Cabo Pulmo National Park, which is a highlight in the Pacific Coast.
Visiting Cabo San Lucas Mexico in February is a great option because it is whale watching season! Whale watching season runs from November to March and during this time, you can see humpback whales as well as other marine species.

7. Holbox in February
Pack light clothing if you plan to visit Holbox in February as you will get hot days and balmy evenings. The average temperature is around 88°F and February is the start of the dry season in Holbox with less than 2 inches of rain in the month.
Holbox is paradise with bright turquoise waters, colorful murals and gold buggies being driven instead of cars.. Bliss! You can expect bright sunny days and sensational sunsets. February is the ideal time for sunbathing and relaxing.
If you want to see the island, you can rent a bike or a golf buggy, the cooler option in the heat. I would recommend taking a stroll to see all the art murals in the streets or go on a taco food crawl. And the best thing to do in Holbox in February is to do nothing!

8. Isla Mujeres in February
February is a perfect time to visit Isla Mujeres as it’s in the dry period and with the average temperature being 82°F.
February is a particularly good time for swimming with the water temperature around 77°F. Take advantage of the temperatures and sit back at one of the many wonderful beaches such as Playa Norte.
Isla Mujeres is also a year round diving destination where you can appreciate the aquatic life and the second-largest reef in the world – Great Mayan Reef. Cancun to Isla Mujeres is only a short ferry ride away, making it an ideal option even for just a day trip!

9. Oaxaca in February
February is the last month of winter in Oaxaca so you can expect warmer temperatures during the day which average around 77°F in the day and 48°F in the evenings, and low levels of humidity. Consider taking a jumper or jacket if you visit Oaxaca in February.
The weather is cool enough for you to do some sight seeing comfortably, you could visit Oaxaca Mexico Unesco World Heritage Site, the prehistoric caves of Yagul and Milta or explore the famous Hierve el Agua natural pools.
Oaxaca is also known for its food scene, so if you get a little cold, or hungry, maybe pop into one of the restaurants to try the mouth-watering authentic food or go on a local food tour to get to know the food in Mexico.

10. Puerto Vallarta in February
With high temperatures reaching around 80°F, February is a fantastic time to visit Puerto Vallarta. Not only is it ranked as one of the safest places to visit in Mexico, but it’s also welcoming to all traveling communities whether you’re a solo, couple, family or a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
February is the perfect time for swimming opportunities with the sea waters reaching around 77°F. It can get a little humid, so there’s nothing better than taking an afternoon dip! Mexico weather in February makes it perfect for this!
Enjoy snorkeling and the stunning views and clear blue skies in Bahia Banderas. If you are looking for a bit more adventure, you could also go ziplining or trekking through the jungle.

11. Bacalar in February
This stunning place can be visited year round, but visiting Bacalar Mexico in February will give you great weather. The average temperature is around 84°F with the average of 24mm of rain.
You’ll want to pack light clothing as the humidity averages around 78%, and if you have wild hair like me maybe some hair de-frizzer

Carnaval, Late February: A multi day event that runs roughly from February 16-21 which consists of parades, elaborate costumes and festive floats which is similar to Carnaval in Brazil. Carnaval takes place across a number of cities so expect big celebrations, dancing and fireworks too. Matzalan, Veracruz, and Cozumel are great places to enjoy the festivities.
Dia de la Candelaria (Candlemas), 2nd February: A Catholic Holiday remembering the presentation of Jesus at the Jerusalem Temple. A major holiday for devout Catholics and is celebrated by most with a meal with friends and family.
Constitution Day, the first Monday in February: a Mexican national holiday where events are held across the country to celebrate the constitution of 1917. As this is a national holiday, we recommend avoiding visiting popular tourist attractions as it can get busy.
Zona Maco Art Fair in Mexico City, first week of February: If you are an art lover then you need to attend this event which is one of the most significant art fairs in Latin America. You can expect fantastic art and exhibitions across the galleries and museums.
Día de San Valentín, February 14 – A day that is celebrated in many countries across the world – Valentine’s Day. A day to celebrate love and friendship with similar events you would find in most countries that celebrate Valentine’s Day, but with the gorgeous Mexican backdrop.
