Trip Planning Tips

Planning a trip can be both exciting and overwhelming at the same time. My partner Tom and I have been traveling the world for almost 5 years now and as you can imagine, we’ve picked up a few tips and tricks along the way.We want to help you plan your next adventure by dishing out some of our best travel tips on how to save up for travel, what insurance to get, how to find cheap accommodation, all the way to the best adventures out there.

Our mission in Adventure in You is to help people create unforgettable memories. We do this by making sure that you have everything you need for your trip, making the entire trip planning process as easy as possible.

Flights

When planning a trip, our first starting point is finding flights. We’ve even planned entire trips based on where we can fly cheaply. To help us find the best deals, we usually start by going on Skyscanner. We use the Skyscanner App to set us flight alerts or to help us explore destinations! Take a look at some of our best articles on finding cheap flights:

Travel Insurance

As soon as we’ve booked our flights, the first thing we do is sort out our travel insurance. I have to be the first to admit that this wasn’t always the case. However, after a few travel accidents, we never leave home without it.

We personally use and recommend World Nomads simply because they have the best adventure travel coverage. There are a lot of myths regarding insurance so whatever insurance provider you choose from, just make sure that you read your policy to make sure that you are covered for the activities that you want to do.

Accommodations

As soon as we have our flights and insurance covered, we now start planning on where to stay. To be perfectly honest, when it comes to traveling around Asia, we are a lot more relaxed and prefer to book things a few days before we reach a destination.

This gives us a lot of flexibility which we love. However, after traveling to other continents, we found this to be quite difficult as places tend to be pricier. This also holds true when traveling during peak season.

For hotels, we usually scour Booking.com to help us find great deals. To help you out even more, in places that we have spent a lot of time in, we’ve compiled articles featuring the best places to stay in. This includes everything from hotels, hostels, to apartments. You can find these articles in our individual travel tips pages.

Travel Guide Books

After both traveling and living extensively all over Asia, we decided to create these travel guidebooks to help travelers make the most out of their time in Southeast Asia. These guidebooks feature the best things to do, what to eat, where to stay and more.

Travel Gear

Hands down, one of the most important parts of your trip will be the gear that you take with you. Regardless if you’re going away for a weekend or on a big gap year, the gear that you take will make or break you.

When we first left to travel the world (before we even met), I Anna had a 60L bag while Tom had an 80L one. Now, we’ve both downsized, figuring out the bare basics of what to bring. The biggest lesson I’ve learned over the years is that investing in high-quality gear is worth it!

To help make things easier for you, we’ve crafted three essential packing lists to help you plan out exactly what you need to bring.
