This ultra unique Airbnb on the East Coast lives up to its name as it’s truly an architectural marvel in the woods. It was designed by Steven Holl as an artist project and creates a funky escape in the heart of the Hudson Valley.
As soon as you walk in, you’ll be met with eye candy. The interior of the house is raw wood that’s been carved and shaped to create unique spaces throughout the home. There’s a massive orb with cut-out windows, huge skylights, and small nooks for cozying up with a book.
The three beds are high quality Japanese futons scattered in special places throughout the house. The entire place also runs on solar electricity and geothermal heating (in addition to the wood stove).
If the interior isn’t unique enough for you, the concept behind the place may be. Funds from Airbnb bookings go directly to a nonprofit project which operates a gallery, architecture fellowship and sculpture trail.

A glamping experience unlike any other, for one of the most unique Airbnbs in the US, book a stay at the Area 55 Futuro House out in Joshua Tree.

Futuro is stocked with board games and a Bluetooth sound system for cranking the tunes, so you’ll be plenty occupied even in the desert. There are lots of places to cozy up with a good book or to lounge around and enjoy the view.
Cooking happens outdoors with the propane grill island and when it starts to get chilly, light up a fire in the pit. You’ll also have a hot outdoor shower at your disposal and a private bathroom. Type: Entire Townhouse (4BR, 2.5B)
Location: East Village, NYC
This must be the most unique Airbnb in NYC and definitely one of the most unique in the USA. Housed in a former synagogue in the middle of the East Village, this stay is sure to be a memorable one.
With soaring 22 foot high ceilings, absolutely gigantic windows, and a strikingly fashionable interior, this special stay is for anyone looking for a chic getaway in the middle of all the action. This home is spread across four floors, with masterful architecture and one-of-a-kind artwork throughout.
But what’s really unique about this NYC Airbnb is the amount of outdoor space it offers. While the City is generally shoebox apartments and fire escapes, this former synagogue has a massive roof deck, huge party deck with a hot tub (yes, a private hot tub in the middle of New York City), a steam room, sun room and even a library to escape to.
Oh, and the master bathroom has a gigantic jacuzzi, too!
Why We Love It: Incredible former synagogue converted to architectural masterpiece with tons of outdoor space in the middle of NYC.

You will not be disappointed.”
Type: Train (1BR, 1B)

This is one of the most unique Airbnbs in the US because when else are you going to be able to say you stayed in a nearly 100 year old train car?!
The interior is surprisingly large and fashionable with monochrome furniture, white paneled walls and plank wood flooring. It looks like the type of space that Chip and Joanna Gaines would style, with an industrial flair and practical areas.

Want to feel the true heartbeat of the west? Stay at this 1920’s sheep wagon and enjoy Oregon Trail in real life. While this stay is located in Wyoming, it’ll make you reminiscent of the computer game from when we were kids.

Getaway up in the air with this incredible stay in Fernwood, Idaho. Definitely, one of the most unique Airbnbs in the USA, this home is perched on stilts and looks out over 13 glorious acres of woods.
This lookout hut was originally built in 1959 but was completely revamped in 2018 to provide a totally immersive vacation away from the rest of the world. From this home, you’ll be sitting high in the treetops, perfect for bird watching or gazing up at the starry night sky.
It’s a nice rustic feel inside with a large bed, wooden floors and of course, a wood stove. The most special part of this unique Airbnb is that all of the walls are windows, making it feel like you’re really sleeping in the trees during your stay.
While this Airbnb is dreamy year round, if you choose to visit in the winter, opt for a pick up where you’ll be met in town by a vintage Snowcat and driven over the massive snow banks to the entrance. The hosts also transport all of your belongings and leave you a sled and snowshoes in case you feel like exploring the area.
P.S., When you need to warm up, pop into the wood fired sauna just below the lookout!
Why We Love It: Former fire lookout tower turned into a unique, rustic stay.

Calling all Lord of the Rings fans! This is the stay for you. As one of the most unique Airbnbs in the USA, even if you aren’t a Middle Earth fanatic, you’ll be able to enjoy this underground hygge.
This place is charming from head to toe. From the cozy living room with a stone fireplace, to the wooden clad bathroom, all the way to the built in chess nook, you’ll be enchanted with all the Hobbit Hole has to offer (and so would Frodo Baggins).

Type: Entire Home (2BR, 1B)
Location: Twentynine Palms, California
An enchanting experience as soon as you step through the doors, the Tile House is definitely one of the most unique Airbnbs in the US and one look will explain why.
Sitting in the rural desert, this entire home is glinting and glimmering with tiles, and has been a work in progress since 2000. The host has tediously been collecting bits and pieces by hand all over the world to bring their unique vision to life.
Everywhere you look there’s something to see, from the artfully mosaiced kitchen to the brightly adorned bathroom. Every inch of this place is bedazzled with different colored tiles or glass baubles, complemented by art-like pieces of furniture and decor.
Even the exterior of the home is covered with tiles, along with interesting sculptures that dot the courtyard. A colorful experience for all, the Tile Home is without a doubt one of the most unique Airbnbs in the USA.
Why We Love It: Intricately tiled home in the desert with pieces from all over the world.
What Past Guests Have Said: “This house is the perfect compliment to the somehow of kilter vibe of the desert. The location is stunning and provides solitude and also easy access to Joshua tree and the Mojave. There is plenty to look at both inside and out. The hot tub is a great place for stargazing. I highly recommend it!”
“This place is unique and has so much to offer. Would stay here again in the future!”
Type: Cave (1BR, 1B)
Location: Geneva, Florida
Indulge your inner child with a stay in the Man Cave. Located in an actual airplane hanger, there’s plenty to keep you and your friends entertained during your time here. The space around the hanger is used for repairing classic cars and “other manly things” according to the listing, and on site you’ll also find alpacas, goats, chickens and a very cuddly cat.
This alone is enough to make it one of the most unique Airbnbs on the East Coast, but wait, there’s more!
Inside the cave, you’ll find plenty of fun and games to keep you occupied like old school pinball, a bar made from the fuel tank of a jet fighter, a hoistable hanging chair, drink fountain, and a giant collection of old movies and music.
While it’s not the most practical stay (there’s no real kitchen), it makes for one of the most unique Airbnb getaways in the USA and potentially the world.
Why We Love It: Manly man cave located inside an airplane hanger with lots to keep you occupied.
What Past Guests Have Said: “Don’t hesitate to book this. Just book it. Now. Book it. This place is absolutely amazing. The people, the animals, the atmosphere…all of it. It is the most unique stay of my life to date. You will not be disappointed.”

“Excellent experience. The space was super cool, so much to look at! Loved Phineas the cat and the shower was beautiful and hot with lots of pressure”
Type: Land Ship (2BR, 1B)
Location: Lyndon Station, Wisconsin
Yoho, yoho, a pirate’s life for… you? This pirate ship makes for one of the most unique Airbnbs in the USA especially because it’s completely landlocked.
This spacious ship is a kid’s dream, full of nooks and crannies to explore and even a slide coming off the side of the ship. Even for adults, a stay here is a treat, with stunning wooden sleeping quarters and an authentic feel to it.
It’s more of a glamping experience than anything, especially during the winter when there’s no running water. But the ship is heated and makes for quite the experience to stay during the snow. Nowhere’s cozier than below deck!
During the summer, the property offers lots of fun activities like rock climbing and water walking to further this unique experience.
Why We Love It: Landlocked pirate ship with cozy quarters and activities.
What Past Guests Have Said: “Good bang for your buck. I visited in the winter and the rooms retained heat fairly well. More of glamping experience than an actual cabin, but if you align expectations properly, it’s a good time. I would stay again.”
“This is truly a hidden treasure. Well maintained property and very well decorated. Can’t say that I’m the type of person to be overly impressed with lodging as I expect cleanliness but this was definitely a WOW. Excellent for families and nature enthusiasts. Love it- thanks for the adventure!”
Type: Yurt (1BR, 1B)
Location: Woodridge, New York
Dreaming of sleeping under the stars? This geodome in the Catskills makes for the ultimate nature escape.
A fashionable yurt-like bubble, one side of the dome is completely open to expose the outside world. Soak in views of the expansive forest and at night, enjoy stargazing from the comfort of your bed.
While this is a glamping experience, there are tons of unique perks to this Airbnb like hot outdoor showers, a claw foot bathtub and an outdoor kitchen.
The dome sits on a 12 acre farm and guests are encouraged to hike around and interact with the animals (we’re talking alpacas, sheep, goats and more). On site, there’s also a full-service recording studio, greenhouse, veggie garden, and workshop space where they spin wool from the alpacas!
Why We Love It: Glamping dome on trendy farm.
What Past Guests Have Said: “This place is amazing. Due to increased number of covid cases, we wanted a place where there are not many people around and this place was perfect. The temperatures dropped drastically than expected during our stay and Josh was very accommodating and he made sure we had an extra caravan along with dome to keep us warm. Kids enjoyed feeding chickens, sheep and alpacas. Lots of privacy and is a good place to visit with both family and friends. Josh was very helpful and was always available when we needed help with something. Definitely going back in next summer again.”

There’s a composting outhouse a stone’s throw away from the bus, along with an outdoor shower to keep you warm and clean.

The Highlands Castle is straight out of a storybook with a Great Hall, music room and library, dining room, royal bedroom and plenty of terraces to enjoy the view from. The entire place is an overdose on luxury with antique stained glass, hanging tapestries, coats of arms, and panoramic windows.
There’s no question you’ll feel like royalty during this stay which is absolutely worth it for the hefty price tag.
Why We Love It: Lavish castle with mountain and lake views.
What Past Guests Have Said: “The castle and view is beyond any words. The memory of being in the castle will be our forever precious. Come and build your own memory… you won’t believe how amazing it is.”
“Amazing space, wonderful location, wonderful everything. Thank you John!!”

A geometric marvel, this modern cottage was inspired by Japanese teahouses and exudes the same sort of zen vibe.
The house is dripping in natural light with a beautiful open plan kitchen stocked with everything you’ll need for your stay. The living area features an entire wall of windows and the lofted office is the perfect place for catching up on emails.

Type: Treehouse (1BR, 1B)
Location: Willow, New York
Head Upstate to this extraordinary treehouse that is beyond all of your wildest dreams. A modern haven situated over a pond, this unique Airbnb is an outstanding stay for architecture lovers looking for a simple place to kick back for a bit.
The Willow Treehouse is pretty much booked out year round (though check back frequently for cancelations!) and with good reason. The massive living room window overlooks the pond outside, with a skylight overhead and a wood stove pumping heat through the area.
The kitchenette is in good shape with a stovetop and plenty of space. The concrete countertop creates a gorgeous contrast to the entire wooden interior.
Climb upstairs to the cozy sleeping loft that’s surrounded by windows on all sides and skylights up above. There’s nothing as magical as waking up to these lush forest views.
If all of this isn’t enough to convince you that this is one of the most unique Airbnbs in the USA, there’s also a wood burning Swedish hot tub (yes please), an outdoor grill and plenty of deck space to enjoy the great outdoors.
Why We Love It: Remarkable treehouse with huge windows and incredible architectural details.
What Past Guests Have Said: “Will always remember watching the moon move across the night sky while soaking in a hot tub in the middle of a beautiful snowy wonderland. Record player and collection of vinyls was a really lovely touch. Imagine it must be amazing in the summer time too – perhaps one day we will be lucky enough to return then.”
“I really enjoyed the house. It is very modern and secluded. During the day, the house has a lot of sunlight and is extremely warm. It is a little bit cold during the night time in the living room. Everything is very clean and organized. We would’ve come here again in the future!”
