Nestled quietly amidst towering coconut trees in the corner of Cemento Beach, Baler is a lovely little bed and breakfast whose entire compound is overflowing with character and charm. Named after the legendary Hawaiian surfer, Duke Kahanamoku, this place was built with so much life, love, and quite frankly, good vibes. Located 15 minutes away from Sabang Beach, Kahanamoku Bed and Breakfast is a great place for those looking for something quiet and relaxing while in Baler.

Kahanamoku Rooms

Built for travelers who want a break from the bust of the city and the ever so growing crowds in Sabang Beach, the owners Camille and Jessal designed the rooms to be modern, tropical and bright, offering rooms that are good for families, groups of friends, and couples, complete with en suite bathrooms and air-conditioning. We stayed in one of their newest suites and was delighted with the room that we got. The rooms were airy, bright, and even had a lovely balcony which overlooked the entire coconut tree laden compound.

To add to the personalized feel and charm of their property, you can either book their rooms directly through their website or only through Airbnb. Personally speaking, I’m a big Airbnb fan! We use it everywhere we go as we love the little-hidden gems that we end up finding. If you haven’t used it yet, here’s a $25 voucher for you to try it out! I promise you won’t regret it.

The rooms at Kahanamoku Bed and Breakfast had soft sheets and pillows, the minimalistic decoration was bright and colorful, and the most important part of it all, a really comfortable bed (something you don’t get so often while traveling in the Philippines!). As a frequent traveler, I often judge a place by their beds and this one most definitely passed the test. Almost too well in fact, as there were a few mornings where it was difficult to find the willpower to tear myself out of bed for an early morning surf.

The Facilities & Location of Kahanamoku

Built with their guests in mind, the owners designed a space where guests could embody a laid back lifestyle, away from the hustle and bustle. Offering a yoga shala, which they allow guests to use with or without a teacher, painted murals, hammocks, and quiet garden nooks, this place is the perfect place to practice mindfulness, and the art of doing nothing, all at the same time.

Compared to the other hotels near Sabang Beach which I found to be rather busy, this was the perfect place to get away from it all. The best part about being a little bit away from everything is the fact you can lay out in the hammocks at night and stare at the starlit sky, as you gently get lulled by the ocean breeze.

As mentioned, Kahanamoku is located 15 minutes away from the main town. For those who don’t have their own transport, or for those who just want to cruise Baler in their own two wheels, this bed and breakfast also rent out beautiful custom-built motorbikes that are perfect for driving around. We rented one of these bad boy’s during our stay and used it to go back and forth between surf breaks. Apart from epic waves, Baler also has some pretty beautiful landmarks that are worth visiting…especially when on two wheels! Kahanamoku also offers yoga and surf retreats, creating a space where you can enjoy the most of what this beautiful seaside town can offer.

The Service

The staff at Kahanamoku couldn’t have been more helpful and lovely. As soon as we checked in, we were given tips on where to go in Baler and what we could do. Every day we were greeted with big smiles and good conversation, giving us a glimpse of what local life is like in Baler. Every room stay comes with a complimentary breakfast of either cereal, scrambled eggs, and toast, banana pancakes, or French toast. While it was hard to decide, the banana pancakes were my personal favorite and was the perfect post-surf meal! Little things like having a laminated card in your room, complete with tips on tourist attractions and things to do, made our stay Kahanamoku even more personalized and special. kahanamoku bed and breakfast

Everything from the wellness and yoga areas, down to the colorful art and laid-back surf vibe were meticulously created and designed by the owners so guests could stay, have fun, relax, and get to know the quieter side of Baler.
