Planning a trip to Myanmar as well as other countries in Southeast Asia? In this article, I walk you through my top tips on what to wear in Myanmar. While I’ve never been one of those girls that have managed to look cute while traveling, over the years, I’ve managed to create a trusty capsule wardrobe which I can rotate depending on where I go.
As I travel full time, I make it a point to invest in high quality items. From time to time, when I find myself swinging back home, I do a wardrobe refresh so I don’t feel like I’m wearing the same things over and over again. While I naturally keep the big ticket items like good jackets and trekking shoes, I try to keep things fresh.

What Wear in Myanmar?
As most of you know, Myanmar is a country that is made up of mostly Buddhist people so dressing conservatively is pretty important. In far-flung places where tourism isn’t as common, this especially holds true.
In Bagan specifically, most of the temples and pagodas have a dress code to adhere to, making sure your shoulders and knees are covered at all times. So if you’re Myanmar bound but unsure about what to bring with you, here’s a pretty complete list of must-bring items for your trip.

Although it doesn’t sound like a lot, after almost four years on the road, I’ve figured out that less is more and you actually really don’t need a lot to survive. One tip that I have is to make sure that you bring items that are all neutrally colored.
I usually have blacks, greys, whites and blues, and just add splashes of color through scarfs, cardigans and other accessories. I think generally speaking no matter what you decide to pack for Myanmar, it’s pretty important to have pack lightweight breathable clothes as no matter what season it is as it is still a tropical country.
Travel Accessories to Bring to Myanmar
While a lot of these travel accessories are pretty standard, if you travel as a digital nomad like us, you will likely have more electronics. Here are just a few basic items that I recommend you take with you.
If you’re not traveling full time nor are you working on the road, I would half the amount of electronics you take along and would just keep it to the basics, bringing along a camera, headphones, and a tablet or kindle for reading.
