New England, so called due to the English settlement in the early 17th century before the founding of the United States, makes up the north eastern most corner of the USA. Consisting of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts and Maine, the region attracts thousands of travelers every year for it’s picturesque snowscapes and outdoor adventures.
There is also lots of non-snowy fun to be had in this region. That’s really the reason I chose this diverse part of North America to look into its top outdoor adventures. You’ll also notice that most adventures listed are in New Hampshire and Vermont as these states have a lot to offer which got me quite excited! Apologies to the other states (it’s not you it’s me).

Take to the Sky and go Hot Air Ballooning in Vermont
Definitely one to do on my adventures list is taking to the air in a hot air balloon. On a “typical flight” in Vermont you’ll drift over amazing sites such as Lake Champlain, the Green Mountains and even the Adirondacks where you might even see animals such as hawks, deer or bears in their natural habitat. What I love about this experience is that no two flights will be the same as nature and its elements change daily. Also the landing is kind of a in-the-moment experience. I’ve heard stories of landings in cow pastures (mooooooo), beaches and even schoolyards, how cool is that? Some landings have even led to personal tours by the landowner, sweet!

Make your own Winter Adventure
I was quite surprised how much there is to do involving snow. Ah, who am I kidding? You could have fun in snow wearing a bin bag. In any state in New England you can go skiing and snowboarding, snowmobiling and dog sledding, and my two favorites extreme sledding and snow tubing! Yes, I used the word ‘extreme.’ This is where you snowshoe up a mountain and plan your most extreme sledding route down! Yes, I also said sliding down the snowy mountains in a tube. Remember my white water tubing experience? It’s that, on snow!
Get Active and go Mountain Biking or Hiking in Connecticut
There are endless trails to choose from to bike or hike around Northern America. Some of the top experiences I’ve heard of have been around Connecticut in Rockland Preserve, Devil’s Hop Yard, and Powder Ridge but all have said that wherever you find yourself you can find a trail that suits you. So what else is there to say other than strap up, seat up, and take on the trail of your choice at the adrenaline level you dare.

Fly through the trees Zip-lining in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire
The Breton Woods Canopy Tour (fancy right) is a series of zip lines 1000 feet above the charming mountainous and wooded landscapes that are Bretton. The three-hour tour involves zip wires, including coated cables for a ‘more natural’ flight, sky bridges, rappels and tree platforms all with interesting factoids about the surroundings from your adventure guide. To top it off the experience ends with a go on the Williwaw Racing Zip line! Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good zip line?
