Best Time to Sail in Greece

If you’re thinking of going sailing in Greece, you’ll need to know when to go:

Late Spring (May to early June): Oh, this time is just lovely! The sun’s out, but it’s not too hot. The waters are warming up, and the best part? Not too many tourists around. Plus, if you’re thinking of a charter sailboat Greece-style, you might snag some sweet deals.

Summer (Late June to August): Okay, so this is when everyone wants a piece of the Greece Sailing pie. It’s sunny and vibrant, and the islands are buzzing.

Just a tip: if you’re eyeing this period for your sailing Greek adventure, book your boat charter Greece spot early. Oh, and watch out for those Meltemi winds, especially if you’re heading to the Cyclades.

Early Autumn (September to October): This is my personal favorite and this is when Tom and I enjoyed our sailing adventure. You’ll be sailing with a warm breeze, taking a dip in the sea that’s just the right temperature, and enjoying the islands without the summer rush.

Pure bliss! The weather does tend to change towards the end of October and the winds pick up so keep this in mind when looking to book. When it comes to the best time to visit Greece, it depends on your personal preference.

Things to Consider When Sailing in Greece

A sailing holiday might be different from your usual trip, so I’ll give you some things to consider before booking.

You need to pack light as space on board can be limited. Most islands will have a luggage storage space so make use of it! What you do need to pack is sun protection as you’ll spend most of your day out in the sun.

You’ll spend a significant portion of your day at sea, so be ready to embrace the boat life. Sea sickness is a possibility so if you think this might affect you, consider some preventive medicines.

Lastly, be warned: the beauty and thrill of sailing might just capture your heart, making you want more! We are already 100% planning our next trip!
