The art of packing well is something that doesn’t come naturally to many. I have to be the first to admit that overpacking used to be my middle name. With the word used being the imperative word. It came to my point that even my carry on bag was full to the brim. However, over the years, our nomadic lifestyle has taught me that less is more and to only bring the essentials. So here is a peak of what’s usually inside my carry on bag and how you can put together the perfect “pro-packed” carry on bag. Not only will these items help make any long-haul flight easier, it will also help you stay organized.

Carry On Travel Accessories

Cable Organizer

My electronic wires are my biggest clutter and weakness. They are constantly in a spaghetti-like tangle which often drives my partner Tom nuts. If you have the same problem, I highly recommend you get yourself one of these wire/electronics bag and trust me, you will have a place for everything. No more rummaging in your carry on to find your charger and power bank! I am actually impressed at the amount of things this thing holds, making it a great travel buy!

Passport Wallet

I do admit that to date, I only use a measly plastic envelope as my travel organizer. However, as soon as this gives way, I will most definitely get myself one of these nifty all around packs which can hold your passport, travel tickets, and a whole lot of other items that would most likely just be scattered around in my carry on.

Foldable Water Bottle

As soon as I saw this, my initial reaction was “why hasn’t someone thought of this sooner! Foldable water bottles, perfect for anyone who travels frequently or for those who are environmentally conscious. Apart from being super nify, they also have loads of cute colors which I love!

Travel Scarf

In all my packing lists, a scarf is always one I ALWAYS recommend to bring. I love this particular one as it has a mini pocket which comes in handy when storing this like money and credit cards. They have loads of patterns and are really useful when traveling! Click here to check the price and get more details

Sunglasses

I’m one of those people who cannot own a pair of expensive sunglasses. I often either end up sitting or misplacing them- which is why I revert to inexpesive ones which I have a few of. I love this particular one because despite being cheap, they have polarized lenses. Might not be the real thing….but it sure looks like it! Click here to check the price and get more details

Light Cardigan

Regardless if you’re going to a cold country or not, keeping a light sweater with you is a great tip as some flights can get chilly. This particular one is made from a super thin material, making it the perfect travel companion. Also, it is very lightweight and goes with basically anything! The only thing that would make this better would be pockets! For those that want some storage, the SCOTTeVEST Cardigan is a great choice if you have the moolah to spend! Eye Mask & Ear Plugs

If there is one badass/geeky/awesome thing to bring with you while traveling, it is this eye mask and ear plug combo. It contours around your face and has the softest feeling- for both your eyes and ears. I used to just wrap my scarf around my face to block off light but have since reverted to this and I couldn’t be happier! Click here to check the price and get more details

Carry On Travel Toiletries

Moisturizer Sets

While generally speaking, I am a no frills-barely own make up kind of girl, moisturizer and lip balm are the two things that I always make sure I have. They go with me at all times and have come in good use during long flights or layovers. Click here to check the price and get more details

Travel Tooth Brush

I love electronic toothbrushes but usually they are pretty bulky. This one is slim, handy, and is a must bring for long plane rides! Click here to check the price and get more details

Lip Balm

Apart from my trusty EOS lipbalm, another favorite of mine is this Rosebud Smith’s lip balm which I am crazy about. This is one of the things that is ALWAYS with me.Click here to check the price and get more details

Carry On Electronics

If you’re like me who travels with loads of electronic gear, it is best to keep your valuables with you at all time. While the new electronics gear that the US is implementing makes this a lot more difficult, for the most part, keeping your electronics with you is still the best way to keep them safe. Here are a few of the electronics that I suggest you take with you.

Travel Adapter

I one had a layover where I badly needed to get online to contact our Airbnb host. Unfortunately, everything needed to be charged and to my dismay, all my adaptors were in my main bag. Since then, I always make sure to have an adaptor handy. I like this particular one as it converts to almost any type of plug which is useful if you travel frequently.

Kindle

I won’t even tell you how useful a kindle is during long haul flights (or even short ones) While I love reading actual books, because I travel a lot, it’s not practical to carry heaps with me. Instead, I use a kindle or an iPad to store loads of different book titles. Love books? Check out our best travel books article for some inspiration.

Power Bank

Given the short lifespan of iPhone batteries, having a portable charger will save you the a lot of hassle. I love this particular one because not only is it well rated and affordable, it also lasts super long. I have this particular one and it lasts a couple of charges on my mobile and other gear. If you need an even larger charger which holds more power, the Anker Powercore 20100 does the trick pretty well!

iPhone

This is really a no brainer. However, some great tips for flights is to load your iphone with some podcasts which you can listen to during long flights. While I only used to listen to business entrepreneur podcasts, I recently found out there are LOADS of other genres out there to help entertain and pass time. Noise Cancellation Headphones

Headphones in general are a god send, specially for long haul flights. But noise cancellation phones is taking it to a different level. I love these particular ones because they are well rated amongst people who are big on their music, plus they are super affordable! While they aren’t the most compact, if sound and noise cancellation is a big factor for you during flights, these bad boys will do the trick! More of an earbuds person? The audio-technica ATH-ANC 23 is pretty nifty and great for those wanting to save on space.

Sony A7II

While I could get really technical with cameras, bottomline is, this Sony A7II is one of the best picks for mirrorless cameras. It is light, has a range of functions, and is perfect for capturing almost anything. We rated a few cameras in our best travel cameras article and this one came in as one of the top contenders. If you want something smaller, the Canon Powershot G9x is also a good choice.

Macbook

As I work online, having my computer with me at all times is a must. Unless I’m going on like a three day trek where I know there won’t be wifi, my computer stays with me. The macbook air’s are also great picks if you want something lighter.
