When traveling, one of the things I miss the most is having a kitchen. Ironically, as much as I enjoy eating out, it’s the small things like having a cup of coffee in bed or having some toast and tea mid day. This is one of the reasons why when we travel, places like Air Bnb are perfect for us. Luckily, we stumbled upon Metropole Bangkok, which was home to ridiculously beautiful and well decorated apartments which we used as our base while in Bangkok.

Metropole, The Crest Collection
Located in Bangkok’s Thong Lor area is the Colonial inspired building of Metropole. As soon as you enter, you immediately feel like you are transported back to time. Elegant yet masculine furniture spread out in the lobby creating tiny nooks of nostalgia and comfort. Dark wooden shelves littered with books and other quirky accent pieces. Unlike most hotel lobbies, which are usually overpowered by large floral center pieces, the lobby of Metropole was timeless and stylish. We were in Bangkok as my partner Tom had laser eye surgery. To those that have been to Bangkok, you would understand that the hustle and bustle can get a bit too chaotic so while he was recovering, we wanted a quiet place where he could relax and rest. Luckily, Metropole was all that and more.

The Rooms at Metropole
Metropole is the a property under Ascott’s Crest Collection which boasted of luxurious serviced residences. Some guests stay for a few days, others stay for years. In all honesty, after two days, I could understand why. As soon as we entered, the studio room, although small, it was very beautifully decorated. They had four different types of rooms (studio, studio executive, studio premier, and the massive one bedroom premier room. The bedroom was tastefully decorated and had all the amenities that you would need. Along with a big plus (supppper comfortable bed), the room had a small kitchenette with basic cooking utensils, an espresso machine, and a bathroom with a small bath tub. The room was dark and had mood lighting all over which was pretty perfect given the sensitivity to light of Tom’s eyes.

We loved the little touches placed around the room from the high end products in the bathroom (which smelled incredible) down to the small bags of tea available for us to drink. Apart from having one of the most comfortable beds ever, I do admit to spending way too much time in their bathtub!
The Facilities of Metropole
Apart from the uber stylish lobby, the hotel also had a small gym, pool, and spa. The bathrooms by the pool also had a sauna which was a nice touch. The pool was by no means olympic sized but it was perfect for cooling off, given the intense Bangkok heat! The hotel also had a small in house restaurant. Their Spa, Prim where we received a complimentary 15 minute back, shoulders and head massage was very well maintained and operated. Apart from using high end quality products, the ladies who worked there were very lovely. As soon as you enter the spa, it exudes a sense of calmness which is quite nice considering the hectic streets of Bangkok.
The hotel itself is located near the vibrant and busy Thong Lor area which has loads of restaurants, shopping centers and bars and is also close to Bangkok Hospital, making it an ideal place to stay for those traveling to Thailand for medical tourism. The outdoor area of the hotel was a great place to just unwind and relax. Trust me, a dip in the pool in the middle of a hot day is heavenly!

Our Overall Experience with Metropole
Our two nights spent there went by very quickly! As Tom was completely bed ridden (walking around blind is not advised), we really got to experience the hotel and all it’s amenities. From the bar, restaurant, to their pool, and their very relaxing apartment type rooms, it was definitely a home away from home and provided us with a much needed place to recover and recuperate. Every day, we were greeted warmly by the staff and were welcomed with a smile. Somehow, Metropole has made us feel at home in such a busy and vibrant city like Bangkok making us look forward to coming back and staying there again.
