A little over 11 years ago, the wide eyed 17 year old me went to Bangkok for the first time. Together with a group of friends, we were in for a shop-till-you-drop birthday kind of weekend courtesy of my friend who just turned 18. Her parents graciously put us up in the Amari Watergate Hotel which was pretty perfect due to its central location. Fast forward to today, I entered Amari Watergate Hotel 11 years later, in complete awe at how this hotel which was established in 1994 managed to stay so modern and up to date.

Location, Location, Location

Bangkok is a huge city. It is big, busy, and soooo incredibly vibrant and diverse. Some people find it chaotic while others find the hustle and bustle invigorating. One of the best things about Amari Watergate hands down is its location. Located right in the heart of Bangkok’s shopping district, you have the famous Platinum Fashion Mall, Pratunam Market, Siam Paragon, and Central World all within walking distance from the hotel. This meant that everything was a mere stone throw away. The hotel also had an easy connection from the airport, and is a short walk away from a few metro stations. Around it are also many local restaurants and street food where you can indulge in one of Thailand’s best features…IT’S FOOD!

The Rooms at Amari Watergate

Unknowingly, upon check in, we were escorted to the Executive Club on the 32nd floor as we were staying in one of the Executive Rooms. Admittedly, we didn’t know what that meant but as soon as we got up to the lounge, our jaws dropped at the stunning view of the city. If you are staying at the any of the Executive Rooms (which we highly recommend you splurge on), you get access to the Executive Lounge which has a pretty stunning view of the city. Apart from the jaw dropping views by the lounge, you can also hang out, work, or enjoy the nightly happy hour from 5-7 pm where they serve free cocktails and finger food (whaaat!). Trust me, it doesn’t get any better than that. amari watergate hotel executive club view

The Executive Club room where we were staying was spacious, modern, and was very beautifully decorated. Now we’ve stayed in Bangkok before but the view that we had from our room was pretty spectacular! Kitted out with a work desk, basic coffee and tea machines, and the softest bed possible, we knew that we would enjoy our two night stay here. Sleeping on the bed felt like we were sleeping on a cloud (i’m not even kidding you!) amari watergate hotel executive club room

To our delight, the Marketing Manager, Laura gave us the grand tour of the place where we got to see not only our room, but the other rooms in the hotel premises as well. The Corner Suites were larger than the deluxe and executive suites with two large windows overlooking the city was perfect for couples and families as well. The Presidential Suite on the other hand was nothing short of lavish and seemed more like an apartment rather than a hotel room. amari watergate hote review

Aside from the happy hour cocktails and food that comes with the Executive Club Room, we also got to enjoy a buffet breakfast which was plentiful and delicious. Anything you could ever want for breakfast was there. A variety of breads, jams, fruits, smoked salmon, bacon cheese, and other savory breakfast staples. They had an egg station, sushi, cereals…I could literally go on and on but I think you get the picture. Bottom line is the food was delicious and the coffee was fantastic. Everything you need to start your day off on the right foot. breakfast amari watergate

The Facilities of Amari Watergate

Equipped with a pool, a spa, saunas, and a large fitness center, Amari Watergate definitely doesn’t fall short of providing their guests with things to do. Surprisingly, unlike most hotel gyms I have been to, their fitness center was actually very large and was very well equipped. They also had a yoga room with the occasional yoga teacher to lead classes for guests. Although they were undergoing quite a few renovations within the hotel, the pool and other amenities were available for use. The hotel also had good wifi which is important for business travelers and digital entrepreneurs like us (totally made that term up!)

The Service at Amari Watergate

Given the length that Amari Watergate has been open, people have kept coming back here over and over again through the years. When asked why this is, the response was simple. The Service. Everyday, we were greeted with a warm smile with every single member of staff going out of their way to help us. As we were stood by the lobby with bags in tow waiting for our Uber ride, a member of staff came by, asked to see where the Uber was coming from and recommended for us to have a seat. She then gave the plate number of our ride to her colleague so that he could keep an eye out for it and let us know when it arrives. I mean, really, how awesome can they get? The staff at the Executive club were all lovely, helpful, and really pleasant to talk to. poolside amari watergate hotel

Our Overall Experience at Amari Watergate

Truth be told, we usually try to shy away from hotel chains as we feel a lot of them lack character and a personal touch. However, after spending two nights at Amari, we knew this wasn’t the case. The reason why this hotel was still going strong over the years, despite the many other (and newer) hotels around was the fact that the staff went always out of their way to make their guests feel at home.

Between its convenient location, level of service, and the warm friendly vibe we got, we would definitely go back. So even after 11 years, I come back only to find that the hotel has gotten even better over the years. Being there was a nostalgic blast from the past which I very much enjoyed every bit of.

  4. This hotel looks absolutely stunning. I love how it lived up to your expectations as a wide-eyed 17 year old and now as an adult. And of course, anywhere with snacks & free drinks during happy hour is fantastic in my books. 🙂
