Upon arrival in Koh Lanta, we got in a tuk tuk and politely asked the driver to take us to Crown Lanta Resort. As if on cue, the driver smiled and started to talk with enthusiasm as he told us that Crown Lanta was THE best hotel on the island. With that being said, we were beyond excited to see what the weekend had in store for us. Set amidst the beautiful island of Koh Lanta, Crown Lanta’s resort premises stretched across 22 hectares of both beach, hills, and steep cliffs. Between our tuk tuk driver’s enthusiasm, the facilities presented online, and the promise of good company, we couldn’t wait to get there.

The Resort Premises

As soon as we arrived, we were happily greeted by the lovely staff of Crown Lanta. These guys were amazing throughout our stay, staying true to their claim of Thailand being the land of smiles, we were happily greeted every time we met a member of staff. Upon check in, we were given welcome drinks and were quickly shuttled off on a small open air van. We also got a welcome letter from the Marketing Manager explaining the resort and the things to do around the area-we thought that was a nice touch! Due to the large resort premises (which were hilly and steep!), the hotel offers a free shuttle to help guests go around. They have two large swimming pools, a spa, a private beach, along with a beach reggae bar which opens at night. I mean really, what more can you ask for?

The Ocean Sunset Villas at Crown Lanta

As soon as we walked in I have to admit to my jaw dropping ever so slightly. The view from the balcony which overlooked the ocean was just absolutely stunning! Compared to our flat in Chiang Mai, this room was huge and had more than everything to ensure that we had a great few nights there. Upon walking in, you see a large day bed with a flat screen tv along with a small refrigerator and mini bar. The entire room was showcased by a large glass door which opened up to our private balcony.

During our three days stay at Crown Lanta, I found myself waking up early and moving to the day bed just so I hear the sound of gentle waves lulling me back to sleep. I absolutely LOVED hearing the waves and the ocean so that was a big plus for me. The glass doors opened up to the balcony making it a perfect spot to read during the day as you listened to the rain or the ocean.

The room itself had a large bed, thick curtains which we could draw to cover the glass sliding door, bathrobes, and soft fluffy towels. One of our favorite features was the fact that you could draw up the blinds on the large windows so that you can shower with the view of the ocean. In fact, in their Grand Villa Residence, one of the tubs is perched right by a glass window so you can enjoy a relaxing bath as it overlooked the ocean.

Other Rooms at Crown Lanta

Apart from the Ocean Sunset Villas where we stayed, Crown Lanta has five other types of rooms. The pool access rooms are also a rather popular choice amongst travelers as it gives your direct access to a lap pool. Wake up, get changed to your swimsuit, and off you go. Sounds pretty perfect to me. They also have other villas with their own private pools attached to it. It was quite honestly, luxurious in every way.

Crown Lanta Facilities

Apart from the two large pools, Crown Lanta also has a fitness center for those who want to get a work out in. As much as I would love to say that we went to the gym while we were there, that would be flat out lying. Instead, I lazily (and happily) lounged around the pool with a cocktail in hand. Their happy hour promo was just too good to resist. In one of the pools, you can sit on a stool which is submerged in the pool as you enjoy a drink or two by the bar.

The rooms also come with a free breakfast buffet which we thought was great. In most of the hotels that we have been to in Thailand, the buffet options are rather limited. Here you had eggs (any way you like em’), bacon, and sausages to order. They also had mini pancakes, waffles, a good selection of bread, fruit, and cereal as well as your standard Asian fare. Our favorite were the fruit smoothies which you never get in other resort buffets. The only comment was that the WIFI in the resort wasn’t that reliable. You had multiple networks which you could connect to but some were slow and some were fast. But, given the fact that not everyone works while they are on holiday like we do, the WIFI was good enough for leisurely browsing. best place to stay in koh lanta

It was somewhat rainy during our visit but we still made the most out of it. During one of the days, we took a long leisurely stroll by their private beach. Although rocky, it was still nice to be by the ocean. From the resort itself, you also had access to the popular Klong Dao Beach which is 3km long.

Our Overall Experience at Crown Lanta

Overall, we had a great time! We caught up with friends, made new ones, and had a fun time relaxing on the islands. It was an awesome treat to stay in such a nice place. Their attention to details went a long way and was very much appreciated. Every day we got fresh flowers placed in small pots in our rooms, the staff were always smiling and helpful, and the pool (and the bar) staff were just friendly and accommodating. It turns out, our tuk-tuk driver was right, Crown Lanta is the perfect getaway in Koh Lanta and we enjoyed every bit of our stay there.

  1. Wow, those views are incredible! Sounds like you were treated really well there! I love the range of facilities they have. I always say I’ll use the fitness facilities, but end up lounging by the pool instead, and with the pool and beach so close by, I think I’d end up doing that again! And who doesn’t love a buffet breakfast! I’ll add Crown Lanta Resort to my next visit to Thailand.

  5. I love that they placed fresh flowers in the rooms every day – it’s these little things which make a property stand out when they go above and beyond 🙂
