E.A.T (Extreme Adventure Tour) Danao is a park located in Bohol, Philippines. This place is like a one stop shop for every adventure junkie. The whole concept behind E.A.T. Danao is creating a sustainable ecotourism park where people can go river trekking, rappelling, rock climbing, caving and even kayaking through the parks amazing landscape. Seriously, this place is pretty amazing. We didn’t spend a lot of time here as we only came for one reason, to try out what they call the “Plunge.” The Plunge Bohol is a canyon swing adventure attraction mounted over a 200 meter high and 300 meter wide gorge. The swing itself calls for you to free fall for about 45 meters before being launched into a pendulum swing, 100 meters wide. Sounds like an adventure already!

You have two options of going about the plunge, you can do it in a seated position, or strapped to your feet, while hanging upside down. I will give you one guess which one I chose. The location of the place itself was absolutely stunning. Set in the midst of a canyon filled with trees and a river that snaked through the bottom, I knew the scenery on my way down would be beautiful. The minute I decided to do it, the crew had me strapped on to a harness before I had a chance to back out. Please note that when I did this (looooong time ago), I didn’t even have a proper camera. Luckily, I found some awesome folks who were willing to share their photos with us.

I stood back, watching the guy before me do it upside down, simulating a bungee like experience, and although I was completely terrified, I decided to just go for it. At the time I went, I was with 4 other girls which provided me with an awesome cheerleading system as I was slowly getting lowered down the hanging gorge. To be honest, the waiting time was the worst. Soon, I found myself hanging upside down, waiting for the cord to fall. My heart was racing, my palms were sweating and multiple curse words were running through my head. Why do I put myself in these situations again?

To add to the anticipation and to make things worse, the operator starts yelling a countdown. 5..4..3..2..1. Everything whirled past me as I free fall upside down for a couple of seconds. I was both falling and swinging across this beautiful canyon and all I could see were trees and greenery and flashes of light as I thanked God I was still alive! Soon, I shifted myself back to a seated position where I could properly enjoy the scenery around me. The whole thing went by so quickly and before I knew it, I was being pulled up back to the metal gorge. To be honest, the part where I was getting pulled up was the worst part as it was quite slow. Imagine creaking sounds as you are slowly pulled up this high gorge that was swinging occasionally due to the wind. FUN.

Overall Experience Taking The Plunge

I have to admit, since I did The Plunge in Bohol, I have since conquered many more adrenaline filling activities. Swimming with sharks, skydiving, paragliding….I think you get the picture. I guess that I realized that no matter how terrified I am in the beginning, the feeling of satisfaction right after is unparalleled. Being able to conquer your fear and live to talk (and brag) about it is pretty cool. How about you? What’s the scariest thing you’ve done?
